Andress at Austin: Week 5 Preview

Well this should be fun.  Friday night, R.E. McKee Stadium will be electric with fans cheering on two 3-1 teams.  Austin will play host to Andress, and a district title could be on the line this early in the season on week 5.  That’s right, both teams aspire to win a District 2-5A District 2 title, but Andress might have the horses to do it.  Both teams will feature the run, led by Andress juniors Travon Ware (227 rushing yards and four touchdowns) and Keandre Jones (205 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns), alongside junior quarterback Jeremiah Tosky (222 rushing yards). The Panthers will counter with William Rodriguez III (577 rushing yards, six touchdowns) and Isiah Witterstauter (384 rushing yards, five touchdowns).  The Eagles have won ten straight in this series, averaging 45.8 points per game, while giving up just 10.3.  I think the Eagles defense will be the difference, led by senior Kiante Liggins, and will hold Austin to under their 32.5 points per game.

Eastlake at Coronado Week 4

This is a tale of a powerful offense against a solid defense.  Something has got to give at Brooks-Quarles Thunderbird Stadium Friday night when the Coronado Thunderbirds (1-2) host the Eastlake Falcons (0-3). The Falcons have soared on offense this season, averaging 34.5 points per game this season, led by juniors, quarterback Orion Olivas (935 yards passing, 10 touchdowns), WR Matthew Jones (257 yards, four touchdowns) and KR Blas Compean (145 yards on kick returns).  The T-Birds counter with a solid defense, giving up just 24.6 points per game, led by seniors Davis Burns (39 tackles), Sebastian Coronado (30 tackles), and Alex Cortez (27 tackles).  New Eastlake head coach Ruben Rodriguez was a longtime offensive coordinator under former coach J.J. Calderon, and has his offense flying high, while Coronado coach Bob Andersen enters his 8th season with a struggling offense but veteran defense.  One of these birds will be flying high after this one, kickoff 7:00pm Friday September 20 at Brooks-Quarles Thunderbird Stadium.

PREDICTION:
